Eden Morris’s work has been exhibited in Boston and New York. She lives in New York City, has a BA in painting from Brandeis University and an MFA in painting from Boston University. Her earliest paintings were abstract, but the theme of beginnings and relationships and their connection to each other- whether personal in her narrative work or objective in her landscape paintings has always been prevalent. In the narrative works, she uses her love of science and story-telling to create a visual world and draws on her background in religion to tell her stories of beginnings from a woman’s point of view. Anatomy, astronomy, animals, mythology and landscape all play a role in Eden’s painting a story. Her work has evolved so that now the paintings are more figurative and specific in their details, but they still rely on the formal issues of abstract painting.
Growing up on Long Island surrounded by water and forests had a profound effect on Eden’s work. She spent a great deal of time hiking and canoeing in these areas and believes this is where she learned to love the outdoors and where her need to make landscapes originated. When making landscape paintings, relationships of light, tide, and weather constantly change. It is this interaction and changeability that Eden finds most inspiring.
